Description
Figma from Scratch is a comprehensive introduction to one of the key tools for interface and digital product design. Over five sessions, you’ll learn to navigate Figma confidently, master its core features, and explore best practices for structuring, prototyping, and delivering professional projects. From the basics to more advanced features like Auto Layout, components, and variables, this course will give you a solid foundation to design efficiently and collaboratively.
Contents
Session 1: Introduction to Figma
We’ll explore what Figma is, what it’s used for, and why it’s such a powerful tool for interface design. You’ll learn how to organize your work, collaborate in real time, and navigate the interface. We’ll also cover basic tools like shapes, text, images, and groups.
Session 2: Design Tools
We’ll dive into Figma’s design tools, including vector editing, effects, blending modes, and advanced typography styles. You’ll also learn how to work with images, apply masks, and export your files efficiently.
Session 3: Auto Layout and Responsive Design
We’ll explore how to use Auto Layout and constraints to build flexible, responsive interfaces. You’ll learn how to structure your designs for different screen sizes and manage alignment, spacing, and absolute positioning.
Session 4: Components and Styles
We’ll cover how to create and reuse components and styles to speed up your workflow. You’ll also learn to work with variables to keep visual consistency and iterate more efficiently.
Session 5: Prototyping and Handoff
You’ll learn how to build interactive prototypes with navigation and animations. We’ll also go over how to export your work, use plugins, and prepare files for developers using DevMode.
Requirements
To participate in this course, you don't need any prior experience in interface design or technical knowledge, it's designed to start from scratch. All you need is a Figma account, which you can create for free directly from your browser, no installation required. Your curiosity and willingness to learn are more than enough!
Teaching Team
This course is taught by Olivier Estévez, a motion designer and creative developer based in Barcelona. Olivier graduated in Graphic Design from IDEP Barcelona and began his career working in tech startups as a digital designer, later specializing in motion design at the studio THRU. Although his background is in design, his practice has always maintained a strong connection to development and programming. His work sits at the intersection of design and technology, exploring how these two fields can enrich one another through kinetic, optimized, and flexible solutions. Olivier works across animated design, interface, web development, and custom tool creation. In addition to collaborating with international brands and studios, he dedicates time to personal (and not-so-personal) projects where he experiments with new techniques, tools, and processes—always aiming to create strong visual impact and push the boundaries of his creative practice.
